Distributed memory parallel groundwater modeling for the Netherlands Hydrological Instrument

چکیده
Worldwide, billions of people rely on fresh groundwater reserves for their domestic, agricultural and industrial water use. Extreme droughts excessive pumping put pressure authorities in maintaining sustainable usage. High-resolution integrated models are valuable assets supporting them. The Netherlands Hydrological Instrument (NHI) provides the Dutch with open source modeling software data. However, NHI often require long run times large memory usage, therefore strongly limiting application. As a solution, we present distributed parallelization, focusing National Model. Depending level integration, show that significant speedups can be obtained up to two orders magnitude. far as know, this is first reported parallelization an operational hydrological model used national-scale management policy making. parallel code data freely available.

A layered approach to parallel computing for spatially distributed hydrological modeling
Distributed hydrological simulations over large watersheds usually require an extensive amount of computation, which necessitates the use of parallel computing. Each type of hydrological model has its own computational characteristics and therefore needs a distinct parallel-computing strategy. In this paper, we focus on one type of hydrological model in which both overland flow routing and chan...
متن کاملA Message-Passing Distributed Memory Parallel Algorithm for a Dual-Code Thin Layer, Parabolized Navier-Stokes Solver
In this study, the results of parallelization of a 3-D dual code (Thin Layer, Parabolized Navier-Stokes solver) for solving supersonic turbulent flow around body and wing-body combinations are presented. As a serial code, TLNS solver is very time consuming and takes a large part of memory due to the iterative and lengthy computations. Also for complicated geometries, an exceeding number of grid...
متن کاملComputer-assisted mesh generation based on hydrological response units for distributed hydrological modeling
Distributed hydrological models rely on a spatial discretization composed of homogeneous units representing different areas within the catchment. Hydrological Response Units (HRUs) typically form the basis of such a discretization. HRUs are generally obtained by intersecting raster or vector layers of land uses, soil types, geology and sub-catchments. Polylines maps representing ditches and riv...
متن کاملA High Performance Parallel IP Lookup Technique Using Distributed Memory Organization and ISCB-Tree Data Structure
The IP Lookup Process is a key bottleneck in routing due to the increase in routing table size, increasing traıc and migration to IPv6 addresses. The IP address lookup involves computation of the Longest Prefix Matching (LPM), which existing solutions such as BSD Radix Tries, scale poorly when traıc in the router increases or when employed for IPv6 address lookups. In this paper, we describe a ...
